Dedicated to attaining the highest levels of artistry and collaboration, mezzo-soprano Maisah Outlaw has been sharing her passion with audiences since transitioning careers in 2021. Through her work on stage, she enjoys mirroring a wide range of human expression.
An emerging artist, Outlaw has already established herself as adept at cross-genre performing, thrilling audiences of both opera and musical theater. This past season, Outlaw debuted the role of Carmen as a guest artist with Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Outlaw’s past credits include Tituba in The Crucible, Filipyevna in Eugene Onegin, and Ottavia in L’incoronazione di Poppea—showcasing a range that spans from early opera to modern compositions. Not one to neglect the standard repertoire, Outlaw has also performed the roles of Zia Principessa in Suor Angelica and Flora in La traviata. She has delighted in highlighting her comedic spirit with the roles of The Old Lady in Candide and Mrs. Sowerberry in Oliver. She also had the honor of being in the collegiate debut of William Grant Still’s Highway 1, U.S.A in the role of Aunt Lou.
A New Jersey native, Maisah Outlaw has since traveled the world, first as a teacher, and later as a performer. She received her classical training at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington, Indiana. Outside of performing, her interests vary widely. You may find her meandering near bodies of water, pushing cutting edge astrology takes, or working as a community grief facilitator. Being a well-rounded, multi-faceted human is an integral part of her artistic process.
